STORY ABOUT US

GENERACIONES EN ACCIÓN

The ultimate goal for Generaciones en Acción is to mobilize the immigrant community in Los Angeles to become leaders in their families and communities. GEA hopes to promote a culture where immigrants understand, defend, and speak out for their own rights as human beings–where they have the tools and empowerment to pursue their personal, professional, and relational life goals.

Mission

To help multi-generational immigrant families and organizations gain access to education, trainings, and cultural activities that contribute to their personal well-being, professional development, leadership skills and community impact.

Vision

To unite different generations of immigrants through improved communication, understanding, validation and mutual respect within the family and the community.

Generaciones en Acción or Generations in Action (GEA) is rounding out its seventh year of intergenerational leadership development in Los Angeles. GEA is an organization of intergenerational migrants focused on weaving the healing of its members and their families to a healthy sense of community often necessary after experiencing the trauma of forced migration.
GEA is an organization of intergenerational migrants focused on weaving the healing of its members and their families to a healthy sense of community often necessary after experiencing the trauma of forced migration. GEA adopts a leadership development model based on popular education programs which speak to the varying needs of intergenerational individuals and their families.
While GEA works with its membership to navigate, connect with, or in some cases, create the resources they need to cope with the reality of building a life in a country new to them. GEA also provides a social safety net during a time when migrants live within a system that looks to disunify families and communities when constant vigilance is tiring, and when fighting against waves of anti-immigrant sentiments and policies seems insufficient or futile. It provides a space of refuge by impulsing individuals to find their voice through storytelling and by intentionally holding space where intergenerational interactions are fostered.
This is important to do for GEA’s members since migrants live during an era of unsettledness and fatigue and when being resilient has gone on for far too long. GEA re-roots its intergenerational members with the reminder that collective strength is to be built with their hands and souls based on sacred community and ancestrally regenerative values.
