The book and audio book “Los Hilos Que Tejen (Threads that Weave)” depict the powerful voices of 19 Latina immigrant women who have resided in the U.S. for over 20 years. It also includes the voices of the three authors who were inspired to weave these 19 stories: Patricia Veliz Macal, a widely- known Los Angeles community leader, her mother Amanda Macal, a proud grandmother and actress, and her daughter Carla Osorio Veliz, a community social worker and organizer. “Los Hilo Que Tejen,” to be published in Spanish, is a unique space that celebrates the courage and strength of immigrant Latina women, encouraging them to speak up and to share their journeys, stories of resilience and victories.

Their message is one of perseverance, love, solidarity, and power, especially the power to overcome obstacles, and to be inspired and to succeed against all odds. They have turned barriers into bridges, leading them to paths of self-discovery and self-empowerment, and in the process becoming unsung heroes and protagonists of their own stories, while impacting entire families and communities. Their collective stories are threads that weave their families and communities with tenderness.
